Abbeville man killed in Iberia Parish crash

An Abbeville man was killed Saturday at around 6 p.m. in Iberia Parish when the Ford 150 truck he was driving, crossed the westbound lane and struck a BMW parked on the shoulder of the roadway.
The State Police released the name of the driver of the truck as being 22-year-old Gerald Minnick of Abbeville.
The State Police said Minnick was traveling eastbound on La. 88, cross the centerlane, hit the BMW, continued to travel east, driving off of the road and across a ditch. The Ford truck struck a utility pole and Minnick was ejected because he was not wearing seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. After the crash the silver BMW left the scene.
Six hours later, troopers located an unoccupied silver 1999 BMW in a trailer park not far from the crash scene. Troopers questioned the owner of the vehicle, 24-year-old Virgil Bryant III of New Iberia. Bryant admitted to Troopers he was involved in the crash.
Troopers arrested Bryant and transported him to the Iberia Parish Jail, where he was booked for Hit and Run Driving and No Insurance.
Bryant was given a ticket for hit and run because he left the scene of the accident.
This case remains under investigation.
