Abbeville Councilman Landry ready to get back to work for District D
Incumbent Abbeville Councilman Wayne Landry said prior to Saturday’s election, his goal was to continue to work for the people in District D.
Voters gave Landry an opportunity to Saturday, re-electing him over challengers Marilyn Mitchell and Kamesha Scott. Landry claimed 373 votes (65.21 percent). Scott took 106 votes (18.53 percent) and 93 voters (16.26 percent) cast ballots for Mitchell.
“I am still on a mission to continue moving forward,” Landry said. “I want to work to make and keep District D, as well as the rest of Abbeville, the place people want to raise their children.
“I want that to be the case for all families and elderly, across the board.”
When he his officially sworn in this summer, it will mark Landry’s second full term. He has served since 2008, when he took over after former Councilman Carlton Campbell stepped down.
“We thank everyone who voted and supported us,” Landry said of the opportunity. “We took nothing for granted.
“We worked hard and kept it clean.”
Landry thanked the many who helped make his re-election possible.
“I want to thank all of my supporters,” Landry said. “I especially want to thank my wife, Catherine, and kids, who worked so hard behind the scenes. I also want to offer a special thank you to Pam and John Darby, my campaign managers. They did a great job.”
Again, Landry’s focus is on the job in front of him. He said that includes working with Vermilion Parish’s economic development board, among other projects.
“It is time for me to get back to work,” Landry said. “I am ready to return to my seat and move forward and move our city to greater heights.”
