Herod Elementary is no longer on lockdown.

Abbeville city worker is strange man walking on school-ground at Herod Elementary in Abbeville

This morning around 10, Herod Elementary School in Abbeville went on lockdown after seeing an unidentified man walking behind the school on the playground. After searching for the man, it was determined the man was an Abbeville City Meter Reader who walked through the fence, not jumped, to read to school meters.
According to Superintendent Jerome Puyau, a person from the Central Office was at Herod when they saw this man walking on the school-grounds. No one knew who the man was, so the Abbeville Police Department was called.
The police and school officials searched the campus inside and outside twice and no one was found, Puyau said.
After the campus was cleared, the school was taken off partial lockdown.
Puyau praised the Herod staff for handling the situation well.
There is a video showing the man walking on the school grounds. The man is a city employee who is no stranger to the school. He has been checking the school's water and electric meters for the last two years. He also walks through the same gate for the last two years and has never an issue.
