573 seniors to graduate this week in Vermilion Parish
Numbers will be up this year when graduation ceremonies begin around Vermilion Parish later this week.
More than 570 graduates will bid adieu to their respective high schools. That is about 20 more than who did so last year.
Gueydan High School will kick off the celebrations this Thursday. The school will send off 22 seniors at 7 p.m. in the Bill Searle Gymnasium.
Friday will be busy, as three schools, Abbeville, Delcambre and Kaplan, will hold ceremonies.
Delcambre High will be the first that day, with its 60 seniors being honored at 6 p.m. in the school’s new gym.
Abbeville High School will see its 104 seniors off during a 7:30 p.m. ceremony. The setting will be Wildcat Stadium on the campus of J.H. Williams Middle School. In the event of inclement weather, the graduation will move to the Abbeville High’s campus gym.
“It is a very small class,” Abbeville High Principal Ivy Landry said, “but it is a very powerful group in all areas.
“In academics, athletics and extra-curricular, this group helped move AHS from a D school to a B school.”
Kaplan High will say farewell to 110 future alumni Friday at 7:30 p.m. The event, weather permitting, is scheduled to take place at Ed Douglas Memorial Stadium on campus. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved a short walk to the school’s B.J. Bordelon Gym.
Saturday will be the big day for graduates at two schools, Erath High and North Vermilion High.
About 100 North Vermilion seniors are expected to walk across that stage to receive diplomas. That milestone will take place in the school’s gym at 5:30 p.m.
The parish’s largest class will be seen at Robert J. Segura Stadium on the campus of Erath High. The school will honor 123 graduates Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Monday will be Vermilion Catholic High School’s day. The school will recognize 47 seniors that night. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in downtown Abbeville.
Wrapping things up will be the parish’s smallest class. Harvest Time Christian Academy will present its six graduates on Thursday, May 22, at 7 p.m. Magdalen Place in downtown Abbeville will serve as the setting.
