2,191 vote early in Vermilion Parish

Early voting for the Dec. 6 runoff elections ended Saturday around the state, with nearly 2,200 Vermilion Parish residents casting ballots.
Vermilion Parish Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand reported that 2,191 voters came through his office during the five days of early voting.
That total falls just shy of the number that was seen during early voting for November’s primary election.
“We were about 40 short of meeting that,” Bertrand said of the nearly 2,230 who voted early in October, ahead of the Nov. 4 primary. “It is around what we expected.”
With offices closed on Thanksgiving, this round of early voting offered two fewer days than would have normally been available. Early voting is always closed on Sundays, leaving five days to vote.
“We had more people per day than we did during the primary,” Bertrand said. “We were averaging about 450 people per day.”
Those in Vermilion Parish who did not vote early will head to the polls Saturday to decide on two runoff elections.
Voters in all precincts in Vermilion will decide between incumbent Mary Landrieu and Bill Cassidy for the U.S. Senate race. Voters living in Ward 6 will vote for constable in a race between B.J. Lege and Austin Romero.
Polls will open this Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7 a.m. and remain so until 8 p.m. Voters will go to their normal precincts.
