Villien named Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Villien is the daughter of Marilyn and Buddy Cabrol of Abbeville. Marilyn has been a Vermilion Parish teacher for the past 30 years and also began her career at James A. Herod Elementary School. She has been a tremendous inspiration and was the person who encouraged her daughter to become a teacher. Mrs. Villien and her husband Ted are the parents to a beautiful son, Thomas. Mrs. Villien’s husband Ted is extremely supportive, spending the same amount of time at school as his wife.

Mrs. Villien began her career student teaching under Mrs. Ellen Lege at James A. Herod Elementary School. The experience was so gratifying that Mrs. Villien fell in love with the school, its student body and the staff. As a result, Mrs. Villien returned to James A. Herod Elementary School the following year as a full-time teacher. For the past 6 years, Mrs. Villien has been an inspiration to her students and peers as a third grade teacher.

In those 6 years Mrs. Villien has been a valuable asset to the staff and student body by serving as an active member of the PBIS team and being an MSP participant for the past 4 years. Technology is one of Mrs. Villien’s passions. She believes that integrating technology is imperative in differentiating instruction. In an effort to maximize student success, Mrs. Villien has attended and presented at LaCue, LATM, and LSTA conferences. Additionally, Mrs. Villien has been a LearnPad Pilot teacher and utilizes technology daily in her classroom. AXI Education Solutions chose Mrs. Villien’s class to be highlighted in a video to promote technology in the classroom.

Mrs. Villien states, "I am extremely proud to be member of the Herod Elementary team. James A. Herod Elementary has been my home for the past 6 years and will continue to be my home.  I started my career at James A. Herod Elementary and have grown into the teacher that I am today due to the exemplary role models that I have worked with here."
Mrs. Villien will progress to the next division as a candidate for the parish Elementary Teacher of the Year.
