One student, a fan of pop culture, created models of characters from the popular Cartoon Network show, Adventure Time.

North Vermilion celebrates student art

Students in Kelly Declouet’s class at North Vermilion High School spent the year working on their artistic skills. After all the effort they put into the class, the fruit of their labor were shown to the school and visitors who came through.

The library at North Vermilion housed the students’ artwork last week, displaying collages, paintings, sculptures, photographs, and anything else you can think of.

“It may be something I want to keep doing later on,” said Jacob Doyle, one of the students. “I just wanted to have fun doing something.”

Demi Boudreaux, another student, who was responsible for a giant waffle cone, a painting and a drawing, was pulled in by a friend. “When [Declouet] assigned us a bottle to draw, that’s when I knew I was good at it.”

Boudreaux, like some of the other NVHS students couldn’t see themselves pursuing it outside of high school, however.

“It was kinda stressful,” Courtney Lyles said. “It was something I did to make myself better.”

Kenneth Vidallier said it definitely isn’t something he’d pursue professionally. For him, the hardest part of the year was working with the sculpture.

Bailey Broussard definitely enjoyed herself, especially when it came to her piece - a portrait of the Eiffel Tower. “I think it’s just really beautiful,” she explained. “I’m not very artistic, but I just really like doing it to help get my mind off things.”

The display capped off a year of tough, but rewarding projects for the kids in the class.
