Junior Auxiliary Honors Local ‘Jewels’

Steve Maraboli once said, “Give freely to the world, the gifts of love and compassion. Do not concern yourself with how much you receive in benefit. Just know in your heart, it will be returned.” Just over three years ago was the establishment of the JA Jewels Project; a prom event sponsored and hosted by the women of Junior Auxiliary of Abbeville.

On Saturday, February 22, 2014, the 3rd Annual JA Jewels event took place at Valour, LLC. With 45 invitations going out to young ladies from 6 Vermilion Parish High Schools, the stage was set for yet another successful year. Twenty-four eager girls arrived at the hosting facility, as they were greeted by the ladies of JA of Abbeville and assisted with all of their prom needs. From beautifully adorned formal gowns to matching shoes, jewelry, handbags, makeup and flowers, these young ladies left the event feeling extraordinary and deserving.

“This is like a dream,” sited a young lady from Abbeville High School, whom, without the assistance of this Project, would not have been afforded the opportunity to participate in her school’s prom this year. In addition to the ladies receiving all of the apparel and accessories at no cost to them or their families, this Project also covers the cost of alterations and dry cleaning of the gowns. “It is so nice that you do this for the girls, but it’s really nice that you do this to help the parents,” remarked a grateful Erath High parent. As the day came to a close, smiling faces and warmed hearts were evidence that the goal of JA Jewels had been accomplished, and lasting memories were made for all involved.

What keeps this Project going is it gladly accepts gently worn formals, shoes, jewelry, and handbags of all styles, sizes, and colors.  As a member of this community, you too can assist in giving back.  If any individual or business is interested in donating, please visit our website at: http://www.jaofabbeville.org/ja-jewels.html. Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of others. Step forward, reach out, and help. Kudos to another successful year to our Project Chairs, Jamie Hebert & Megan Landry-Lalande.
