Lady Eagles get back to winning ways

The Lady Eagles of Vermilion Catholic were eager to get back on the court after the first district loss they suffered last Friday night.

The Lady Eagles came out and took out their frustration from that loss on the Gueydan Honey Bears, by winning 52-31.

“It was good to get back on the court after a loss like we had,” Lady Eagles Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “We came out and played a good team, and played good team basketball. I couldn’t ask for more.”

Kaylen Collins led the way in scoring for the Lady Eagles, with 12 points.

Ashailee Brailey and Kelly White were on the heels of Collins as they both scored 10 points.

Katie Frith and Ellen Langlinais got in on the scoring action as they scored nine and seven points respectively.

Leah Camel and Kirsten Broussard rounded out the scoring for the Lady Eagles with two points apiece.

The Lady Eagles record now sits at 18-3 overall and 4-1 in district.

“We were playing the Class 1A State Champions,” Honey Bears Head Coach Randall Bertrand said. “That’s a good team, and we played well, we just couldn’t get our shots to drop, but that’s basketball.”

T’nia Leger scored a team high nine points for the Honey Bears. Leger scored seven of her nine points in the second half.

Ke’ara Charles was right behind Leger with eight points on the night.

Ny Boudreaux and Cheyenne Lacomb scored six and five points respectively.

Ashari Terry had an off night as her only point on the night came on a free throw late in the fourth quarter.

The Honey Bears record is now 11-7 overall and 2-2 in district play.

The Honey Bears sit at number 22 in the most current power rankings.
