Honey Bears get first district win

The Gueydan Honey Bears entered the Friday match-up against Highland Baptist riding high off of a win over St. Edmund, and they were looking to turn that one game win into a two game winning streak.

They were able to do just that, with a 45-33 victory over Highland Baptist.

The first quarter is where the Honey Bears would insert their dominace over Highland Baptist.

Gueydan was able to start the game right by scoring 18 points in the first quarter.

Juniors Kylie Crochet and Sheridan Guidry scored 12 of the Honey Bears 18 points in the first quarter.

The defense was not to be outdone by the prolific offense of the Honey Bears in the first quarter.

The defense only allowed Highland Baptist to score four points in the first quarter.

Gueydan had a 14 point lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter the Honey Bears offense would cool down a little bit, as it was only able to score seven points in the second quarter.

Ke’ara Charles did most of the heavy lifting for the Honey Bears offense in the second quarter as she scored five of the seven points.

The defense didn’t give an inch to Highland Baptist. In the second quarter, the honey Bear defense only allowed Highland Baptist to score only four points again.

At halftime, the Honey Bears had a commanding 25-8 lead over Highland Baptist.

The third quarter would roll around and the Honey Bears defense would give a little as it allowed Highland Baptist to score 11 points.

The offense for Gueydan picked its game up a bit as it was able to score 10 points in the third quarter.

Tinia Leger scored six of the Honey Bears 10 points in the third quarter.

Despite losing the quarter, the Honey Bears still had a commanding 35-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Honey Bears offense was able to duplicate its production from the previous quarter, as it scored 10 again.

The defense allowed the most points of any quarter to Highland Baptist in the fourth quarter.

Highland Baptist was able to score 14 points in the fourth quarter, but even with the late attempt at a comeback the Honey Bears were able to hold on for the 45-33 victory.

Leading the way in scoring for the Honey Bears was Ke’ara Charles.

Charles scored a team high 11 points.

Right behind Charles was Sheridan Guidry, who scored nine points.

Kylie Crochet and T’nia Leger were able to get in on the action with eight points apiece.

Ashari Terry, ERin Johnson and Cheyenne LaComb rounded out the scoring for the Honey Bears with four, three and two points respectively.

Gueydan’s record now sits at 10-6 overall.
