Eagles get first district win

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles entered the game against Gueydan on an unfortunate four game losing streak.

The Eagles were able to right the ship and end the four-game losing streak with a 53-34 victory over the Gueydan Bears.

This is also the first district win for the Eagles on the season.

“All wins feel great,” Eagles Head Coach Roch Charpentier said. “We came out and played some solid basketball tonight. We finally had our entire team on the court, and hopefully we can use this win to get on some sort of a streak.”

VC was able to get its offense going early and often in the first half.

The Eagles scored 12 points in the first quarter and 16 in the second quarter.

As well as the offense played in the first half, the defense played even better.

VC only allowed a total of eight points to the Bears in the first half.

The second half was a more competitive battle, but by that time the game was already over.

The Bears managed to score 26 points in the second half, and the Eagles put up 25.

Shay Laporte led the way in scoring for the Eagles.

Laporte scored the first six points of the game for the Eagles, on his way to scoring a team high 12 points.

Wes Meaux scored nine points on the night.

All of Meaux’s points came from behind the three point line.

William Noegel, Drake Broussard, Brenna Gallet and Ethan Menard all scored six points for the Eagles.

Tyler Lege added four points to the scoreboard.

Connor Menard and Chris Campbell rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with two points apiece.

This was the first game that Connor Menard has been able to participate in because of an injured left arm.
