Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Monday, January 25, 2010 at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Adam “LuLu” Leger Jr., 92, who died Friday, January 22, 2010 at his residence.

He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

Adam “LuLu” Leger Jr., youngest son of Adam Leger and Emma Labry was born and grew up in the Cossinade community. As a young man, Adam served his country in the Medical corps of the U.S. Army during World War II, in England, Italy and North Africa. On Thanksgiving day in 1944, he returned to his family, and that spring, married his sweetheart Bertha Marie Bell, and the two moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he was stationed at a convalescent hospital. They returned to Kaplan after the war was over, and set up business as Leger Wholesale Drug Company and began raising their family.

Adam was always active in his church, as an usher, alter server and Eucharistic minister for many years. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member. Always interested in education and young people, he worked with the American Legion “What I Want to be and Why” program. In addition to many years in the American Legion, he was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He had a smile for everyone, loved a good joke, especially “practical jokes”, and always had a story to tell. He loved to fish and play cards and work in his garden. His specialty was fried eggplant and sweet potato “delight”. He was an avid follower of all sports and was seen at many home games of Kaplan High and Vermilion Catholic. His greatest pride and pleasure was his family. He enjoyed teaching the little ones little French songs and rhymes.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Bertha Bell Leger of Kaplan; four sons, Ronald Leger and his wife Tasha of Leroy, Darrel Leger and his wife Patty of Lafayette, Brennie Leger of Lafayette, Tony Leger and his wife Chona of Cebu, Philippines; seven grandchildren, Christine and her husband Matt Cravets of Carlsbad, California, Francine and her husband Kevin Guarino of Abbeville, Nikki and her husband Daniel Chapman of Maurice, Ana Leger of Church Point, Marcelle and her husband Coy Courtois of Lafayette, Gip Santapun of Lafayette, Ian Leger and his wife Amor of Cebu, Philippines; seven great grandchildren, Megan Guarino of Abbeville, Reed Guarino of Abbeville, Hannah Rose Cravets of Carlsbad, California, Seth Chapman of Maurice, Izabelle Courtois of Lafayette, Andrea and Kaiyah Leger both of Cebu, Philippines .

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Leger and the former Emma Labry, four brothers and three sisters.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana and Kaplan Homecare, also a very special thanks to caregivers, Barbara Touchet, Nedia Benoit and Chona Leger.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 6 p.m.; Monday, January 25, from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
