Abbeville police search for shooter, puncher

By Chris Rosa

The Abbeville Police Department is searching for two different people that were involved in a shooting and a fight over the weekend.

The shooting occurred early Sunday morning and resulted in four bullets being fired from a pistol on the street of Wakeman Dubois near Graceland Ave.

According to Lt. David Hardy, a couple of arguments took place Saturday between Donathan “Donnie” Comeaux and a person who is suspected of having shot Comeaux in the hip.

Hardy did not have a suspect because none of the 75 people on the street at the time of the shooting wanted to give the police the name of the person who shot Comeaux,

One of the four bullets fired hit Comeaux and another one nipped the ankle of Paul Rice. Hardy said Rice did not know he was shot until he went home that night and realized he’d been shot in the ankle.

He then went to Abbeville General Hospital.

Comeaux was transported to Abbeville General, Lafayette General and then to Tulane in New Orleans.

“We are following every lead,” said Hardy.

The Abbeville Police Department is asking for a witness to come forward to identify the shooter. They can contact Sgt. Jason Hebert or Lt. Hardy (898-2511).

Unknown KO puncher

Early Friday morning, a 19-year-old was knocked out by someone inside of Culpepper’s Bar in Abbeville.

The teen-ager, according to the police report, did not see who knocked him out. Acadian Ambulance was called to the bar.

The Abbeville Police Department is asking for a witness who may have seen the punch to contact Sgt. Jason Hebert or Lt. Hardy at 898-2511.
