Gueydan nips Abbeville in Yuletide

The Gueydan HoneyBears dodged a bullet in their opening game of the Coca-Cola VC Yuletide Tournament on Tuesday.
In the second game of the tournament, the Honeybears beat Abbeville, 35-31.
Gueydan will play the winner of the Erath/Delcambre winner Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Abbeville will play the loser of the Erath/Delcambre game Wednesday at noon.
The VC girls play Kaplan Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The game went back and forth for three quarters. When the third quarter was over, it was tied 25-25.
The Honeybears tried to shake Abbeville in the fourth frame but could not. Gueydan went ahead 29-25 at the 6:21 mark in the fourth frame, but then AHS cut it to one, 29-28, on Tayla Willis’ three pointer.
The Lady Wildcats were within one point, 32-31, with 1:38 left in the game.
The Lady Wildcats had to foul to stop the clock.
Gueydan’s Ashari Terry nailed three out of four free throws in the final 1:30 of the game and secured the win.
Terry finished with 11 points and was 9 of 14 at the charity stripe.
Kendra Petry had success inside for Gueydan. Petry had 12 points, while Ke’Ara Charles made all of her six points in the third period.
The Lady Wildcats were able to stay in the game because of three-point shots. As a team, they made five treys.
Abbeville’s Dontrielle Comeaux finished with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.
Other AHS scorers were Lori Clark (7), Tayla Willis (6), and Eliza Chambers and Oriel Henderson with four points each.
