One dead in Dutel Street shooting

By Chris Rosa

The hunt is on for Jamaal Diggs, who is wanted for the alleged murder of D’Jacqney Mitchell on Thursday.

Mitchell was shot four times on the 300 block of Dutel Street in Abbeville at around 5 p.m.

Abbeville Police Chief Rick Coleman did not want to release the motive of the shooting but did say there were witnesses who saw the shooting.

He also did not say if the two men knew each other.

As of press time, the Abbeville police have not been able to locate Diggs. Coleman said other state agents have been contacted because the police fear that Diggs will try to leave the state.

Coleman said Diggs should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone spots Diggs, they should contact the Abbeville police.

Thursday’s shooting was the third murder in Abbeville this year and the first since April.

Ernest Guidry of Abbeville was shot and killed two miles north of Abbeville a couple of months ago. Ferdinand Nickles was arrested in connection with that murder. He was found in Atlanta in November and brought back to the parish.
