Rodney “Pokey” McGee

ABBEVILLE — Funeral Services for Rodney “Pokey” McGee will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, January 18 , 2017 at David Funeral Home Chapel of Abbeville with Deacon Keith Duhon Officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 9:00AM until the time of services, with a recitation of the Rosary at 1:00PM.
A native of Mamou and a resident of Abbeville Mr. McGee passed away at 6:17PM on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Heart Hospital Of Lafayette surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Rodney was better known amongst close friends and family as “Pokey”, a name affectionately given to him by his grandchildren. As a young man, Mr. Pokey honorably served in the United States Army and Merchant Marines during the Korean War. He then went on to retire from Life and Casualty Insurance after providing over 30 years of service. He enjoyed volunteering at Abbeville General Hospital, very involved in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and spending time with his family. He was an adoring husband, a loving father, and will be remembered fondly for his giving nature.
Left to cherish his memories are his two sons, Karl McGee and his wife Janet McGee of Abbeville and Victor McGee of Houston; a daughter, JoRhetta Weekly of Abbeville and her husband Daniel Weekly; three grandsons, Darren Weekly, Keman McGee, and Jason McGee; a granddaughter, Millicent Noel; seven great grandchildren and five great step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Inez Benoit McGee; his parents, Abel and Gladys McGee; and a brother, Royley McGee.
Serving as pallbearers will be Keman McGee, Arthur McGee Sr., A.J. McGee Jr., Randall McGee, Brennan Lombes, and Dylan Lombes.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Richard, Darren Weekly, and Ryan McGee.
The readings will be by Millicient Noel.
Karl and Janet McGee were beyond blessed over the last three years to have the privilege of being Mr. Rodney’s primary caretakers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all family members and friends who supported and help care for Mr. Rodney.
