Myrtle Lavergne Guidry

GUEYDAN - Mrs. Myrtle M. Lavergne Guidry passed away on June 14, 2014 surrounded by her loving family, at the beautiful age of 85. Mrs. Myrtle was born in Gueydan, to the late Jerard Marceaux and the late Edith Hebert Marceaux on October 6, 1928. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and was very devoted to her faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Myrtle loved to work for the Catholic school and was a huge supporter of it. She worked for Marceaux’s, Lee Myers Store and Thibodeaux’s. Mrs. Myrtle enjoyed being a night hostess for the funeral homes in Gueydan. She had a kind heart and a love for people and loved taking care of the sick.
Mrs. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Aline Hayes of Crowley; one step-son, James Guidry of Gueydan; three step-daughters, Susan Cloud of Jennings, Pat Beard of Hackberry and Alice “Peanut” Lege of Hackberry; three brothers, Edison Marceaux of Gueydan, James “Micky” Marceaux of Lafayette, and Jerard Marceaux, Jr. of Kaplan, ; her sister, Gertie Carpenter of Aledo, Texas; she also leaves behind to cherish in her memories, two grandchildren, Vikki Clark and Nicole Hayes; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents, Jerard, Sr. and Edith Hebert Marceaux; her husbands, Floyd Lavergne and Henry Guidry, Sr.; one grandchild, Sonya Treadway; one sister, Oza Templett; step-son, Henry Guidry, Jr.; one step-daughter, Susie Young.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Father Clint Trahan officiating. Burial followed in the Gueydan Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. A Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. by Father Corey Campeaux. Visitation resumed on Monday, June 16 at 8:a.m. until the time of her funeral Mass. A Rosary was recited on Monday morning at 10:15 a.m. by the Catholic Daughters of America.
Carrying Mrs. Myrtle to her eternal resting place were Tyler Clark, Grant Clark, Cody Hayes, Trent Connolly, Seth Stewart and Tony Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Clark, Taylor Clark and Broc Hayes.
