Spending in Vermilion Parish a good trend for 2013

Spending in Vermilion Parish continues to be steady,which has been the trend throughout 2013.
Sales tax collection for the month of September is almost a ditto copy of sales tax collection July and August.
Thus far, the School Board, Police Jury and Sheriff’s Office are up 2.5 percent in sales tax collection for the year.
For the school board, that is about $74,000 more than a year ago.
The Police Jury, in September collected just over $1 million, which is about about $60,000 more than a year ago.
The Sheriff’s Office collected $523,000 in September, which is $43,000 more than a year ago.
The municipalities in the parish had ups and downs in collections.
Abbeville, the largest city in the parish, continues to remain steady and collected just about the same as last year. The city collected $297,000 or about $3,000 more than a year ago.
Kaplan, the second largest city in the parish, collected $50,000, which is $3,000 more than a year ago.
Erath had a drop in sales tax collection by $3,000, which is 13 percent drop. The town collected $23,300.
Maurice remained about the same, collecting $55,000.
Delcambre collected $17,000, which is $1,000 more than a year ago.
Gueydan also remained the same in collections with a collection of $16,600.
