Kaplan police officer arrested by deputies

KAPLAN — Melissa Istre, a patrol sergeant with the Kaplan Police Department, was arrested last Friday by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Istre, 37, a six-year KPD veteran, was charged with two counts of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, false swearing and obstruction of justice.
According to Kaplan Chief of Police Boyd Adams, Istre approached Adams on Monday, Aug. 30 advising him of a complaint in which she was the alleged victim.
“I advised her that since she was an employee of the Kaplan Police Department,” said Adams, “her complaint should be handled by the Sheriff’s Office to establish an impartial investigation.
“I forwarded the investigation to the sheriff’s office.”
Adams also stated that none of the charges she is facing were in any way affiliated with her duties at the kaplan police department.
Istre is currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
She is incarcerated at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Facility in Abbeville. Bond was set at $15,000.
