Amy family loses everything in house fire

A morning fire last Monday sent a mother and her two children to the hospital.
The house fire was at the home of Amy and Otis Amy family, who lived at 22027 Mahogany Road, northwest of Kaplan. The house was totally destroyed by the fire and the family also lost all the contents inside.
The three were able to escape through a bedroom window. While the children suffered minor smoke inhalation, the mother was treated for severe smoke inhalation and burns on her arm at Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
The Kaplan Fire Department received the call at 10:45 a.m. on June 29. Also responding to the call were the Leleux and Gueydan Fire Department.
Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
