Theriot wins as mayor of Maurice after no one qualifies to run against him

A list of who qualified

Wayne Theriot will return as mayor of Maurice after no one qualified to run against him.
Theriot is in his final year of his first term as mayor of Maurice. He will begin his second term in January of 2015.
“I am very fortunate for another opportunity to serve the people of Maurice,” he said Friday after the clerk of court’s office closed. “It is humbling.”
The first four years, Theriot has been a part of Maurice’s growing pains.
For the 2010 census, Maurice had a population of 964.
Today, because of the new apartment complex, new nursing home and new homes, Theriot is figuring there are 1,480 people in the Village of Maurice.
The biggest challenge for Theriot and the new aldermen will be Maurice growing. He said the Village can handle a population of just under 3,000 people. More than 3,000, then the Village will have to make adjustments.
Already, with the explosion of population, Maurice is looking into hiring two policemen for the night shift instead of having only one. Three maintenance workers also have their hands full keeping up with the demand of keeping the Village operating. The Village may look into hiring a fourth one in the near future.
In January of 2015, there could be three new aldermen in Maurice.
Only Phyllis Catalon Johnson, who as a sitting alderman, qualified in Maurice. The new names who qualified are are Lynn Howell, “Keno” Picard and Travis Howell.
Maurice has three aldermen and there are four people running.
Maurice Police Chief Warren Rost has a challenger, Brian Baumgardner.
