Reco Antonio Davis

Teen gets 40-year sentence in man’s death

Judge Edward Broussard recently sentenced Reco Antonio Davis in connection to the death that occurred three years ago of a man in Abbeville.
Davis, 18, is to serve 40 years at hard labor in which 10 years are to be suspended at the department of corrections with credit for time served. Davis will also serve five years of supervised probation after he is released.
Davis pleaded no contest to the amended charge of manslaughter at the sentencing hearing.
Davis, 15 at the time, pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in February 2012, after a grand jury indicted him, along with Tevin Johnson and Kiwane Narcisse, for the death of Tam Ninh Thai. Johnson and Narcisse were both 16 at the time.
Police reports showed that Davis, Johnson and Narcisse beat Thai during an attempt to rob him in January ‘12. The incident took place near the intersection of South Lyman Street and Felicity Street. Thai reportedly lay in the street as the three left the scene.
Davis, Johnson and Narcisse are said to have returned to the scene to find Thai not moving. One of the teens, later found to be Davis, called 911.
The Abbeville Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance responded to the call. Medics found Thai still alive and transported him to Abbeville General.
Thai later succumbed to his injuries, leading to the murder charges.
Detectives with the Abbeville Police Department obtained a copy of the 911 call, learning that Davis made the call. Abbeville Police arrested Davis, Johnson and Narcisse on Jan. 1, 2012.
Johnson and Narcisse will each be heading to court later this year to face their respective first-degree murder charges.
