Tammy Trahan to be inducted into Cattle Festival Hall of Fame

Tammy Trahan is an inductee in the Louisiana Cattle Festival Hall of Fame.
She will be honored during Thursday’s banquet.
An honor that is most appropriate for the tireless dedication and service to the festival and the parish that Trahan has provided. Tammy began her work with the Cattle Festival when she was hired as an Administrative Coordinator with the LSU AgCenter 30 years ago. And throughout that time she has been an invaluable asset to the festival.
Trahan has been a behind the scenes driving force for the festival’s cooking contest and livestock show. She organizes exhibits, obtains judges and assists with entries for the cooking contest. She is instrumental in organizing entries, developing programs and obtaining and readying awards for the livestock show. Her knowledge and skills have made for one of the best run livestock shows in the state. Participants from throughout Southwest Louisiana return year after year and comment on the quality of the show.
Her service to the cattle industry does not stop with her service to the festival. She is also responsible for organizing several important cattle functions benefitting the ranchers of Vermilion Parish including cooperative purchasing programs saving ranchers countless dollars. She organizes events and fundraisers for the Vermilion Cattleman’s and Cattlewomen’s Associations including the annual barbecue, banquets and board meetings.
During the storms she came to work organizing relief to ranchers in the form of feed, hay and building materials.
Tammy is also significantly involved with school and athletic activities in Abbeville. The Abbeville High Booster Club, Project Graduations, Baseball teams, Football teams and Basketball teams have all used her skills and depended on her for their fundraising activities and team related events.
She has been a valued worker for community athletics as well as serving as World Series Committee Chair and organizational leader for multiple baseball and basketball tournaments.
Tammy is a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and is married to Ellery Trahan. She raised two sons, Jared and Branden, and has one grandson, Hayes.
