Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit confiscates drugs, surveillance equipment during pair of arrests

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On September, 23, agents with the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics unit along with the Sheriff’s K-9 division traveled to 308 E. Simon St. in Kaplan to execute a search warrant.
Agents obtained a warrant after collecting information on suspected illicit drug dealing from the residence.
Upon arriving and executing the warrant, agents detained Stephanie Akins (9-1-66) and Baji Ramos (8-3-73) who reside at the residence in question. Upon searching the residence, several forms of illicit narcotics were seized, along with an elaborate surveillance system, believed to be used to tip Ramos off to law enforcement presence.
Both Ramos and Akins were arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, methamphetamine, and hydrocodone. Ramos was further charged with transactions involving drug proceeds, while Akin picked up another charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Sheriff Couvillon would like to thank Chief Boyd Adams and the Kaplan Police Department in aiding the Sheriff’s Department in this matter.
In other action, while working criminal patrol agents located Ricky Miller (dob 2-5-84) of Abbeville, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for theft by fraud. Upon his arrest, agents located numerous illicit drugs in his possession. Miller was subsequently charged with possession of MDMA (Ecstasy), possession of methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule IV narcotic (Clonazepam), possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and transactions involving drug proceeds.
