Kaplan Police make arrests in burglary of Dollar General Store

 

Joseph Allen Abshire, 32, of Bellshire Apt. #9, Kaplan was arrested and charged with burglary of the Dollar General Store in Kaplan.

Also arrested and charged wit h principal to burglary was Kayla Boyd, 25, of 1800 W. 3rd, Apt. 9, Kaplan.

According to Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams, early Sunday morning, police officers drove up on a burglary in progress at Dollar General on Veteran’s Memorial Drive. 

Assistant Chief Virgie LeMaire, Sgt. Irvin Cates and Officer Roshel Turner were on patrol checking businesses to make sure they were secure. 

Upon checking Dollar General, LeMaire noticed the metallic was unscrewed and pulled back in the rear of the store and insulation from the wall was on the outside of the building on the ground. 

Officers called for back up to assist surrounding the building and awaited Kaplan Police K-9 Officer Rocky Trahan, Detective Melissa Istre and Adams to arrive. 

K-9 Diamond cleared the building with no suspects located. 

Once inside the building, officers located several pieces of evidence and were able to obtain a suspect. 

When viewing the video surveillance in the store, police observed the suspect in the store wearing some type of cover over his face. The video also showed the suspect had noticed when LeMaire was at the front door of the business. It was observed this is  when he fled, exiting the rear exterior wall into a field. 

Within 30 minutes of the time the burglary was committed Abshire was  apprehended and arrested for the burglary. 

Bond has not been set and both are  currently in the Kaplan City jail.
