Houston man dies in car crash north of Kaplan

A Houston man died Friday afternoon when his truck veered off La. 696, east of Kaplan in Vermilion Parish, slammed into a culvert and rolled over multiple times, a State Police spokesman said.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the Toyota pickup driven by Thomas Trahan, 57, careened off the left side of the road shortly before 6 p.m., Trooper First Class Stephen Hammons said Saturday in a news release.
Trahan was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but died from his injuries, Hammons said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner, Hammons said.
Toxicology samples were submitted to the State Crime Lab to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash, Hammons said
