Gueydan Duck Festival Cook-Off Chairman recently announced one of the grand prizes for the main event happening at the Festival Grounds Sunday, August 28. A 43 inch flat screen TV will be given as first prize along with an appearance on the John Fose cooking show.

Gueydan Duck Festival Cook-Off

As the 40th Gueydan Duck Festival approaches, volunteers are busy preparing for the annual festival. Committees are preparing their booths for events, and the Cook-off Committee is looking for cooks of all ages.
Competition in the cook-off in the past years has been fierce with local cooks and cooks from afar serving up dishes of duck and goose including Duck Fajitas, Goose a La Hebert, Grits and Duck Grillades, as well as traditional pot roasted duck and goose gumbo.
Last year’s cook-off included a competition for children and will be included again this year. For children 8-11, a dessert prepared at home will be accepted in the cook-off, and a side dish pre-prepared for ages 12-16 will also be included. Entry fee is $5 with prizes for first place winners and all entries receive a t-shirt.
With Cajun cuisine remaining popular throughout the country, Cajun cooks have become increasingly adventurous. Chef John Folse from St. John Parish has created a network of cooking businesses featuring Cajun cooking and hosts a show on PBS. The first place winner of the Duck Festival Cook-off this year will be featured on his show, in addition to a 43” HiSense flat-screen TV. Second place prize is a pot for roasting ducks and third place is a gift basket from Baker Farms.
Samples of food from the entries will be available to the general public who may vote on their favorite dish for the People’s Choice Award.
Entry forms may be obtained at the Gueydan Journal or you may call Jennifer David (337) 849-7907 for forms.
