Going Back To Herod

Abbeville graduates walk through halls of elementary school

A group of 2016 Abbeville High graduates went back to where it all began - Herod Elementary.
There were 30-plus AHS graduates who showed up in their cap and gown to walk through the halls.
Herod Elementary students lined the halls and held up congratulations signs and applauded as the graduates walked by.
“I am excited to be back because this is where I began,” said DeShante Turner. “It is shocking and it is making me want to cry. It’s shocking because I am graduating and this is where it all began.”
Turner said she has visited Herod once in the last six years to see her younger brother, Brandale, at Herod. Turner had plans to search out old teachers and hug them and see if they remember her.
AHS senior Tyra Adams was thrilled to do the walk-through at Herod Elementary. She thanked Abbeville High Principal Ivy Landry for coming up with the idea.
“I loved coming,” said Tyra Adams. “I came here when I was small and it brought me back to my roots. I was tearing up when I was walking down the halls.
“It was a great experience and I am glad Mr. Ivy allowed us to do it.
Adams remembers attending the school as an elementary student. “I remember a lot of my teachers and I see some are still here. I told them hello.”
Landry said the reason for going back was, “To show the young students that hard work pays off.”
