Erath native Hoffpauir named to LSU’s 2013 Homecoming court

BATON ROUGE – Dylon Hoffpauir, a native of Erath, is among those nominated to LSU’s 2013 Homecoming court.
Hoffpauir is a senior mass communication major, concentrating in public relations.
LSU formally announced selections for the 2013 Homecoming Court at its recent annual Fall Fest celebration.
The court is comprised of 14 exceptional students that represent all four undergraduate classifications, males and females, and many of the university’s most dynamic student organizations. The court includes one first-year couple, one sophomore couple, two junior couples and three senior couples. However, only senior court members are eligible for king or queen honors.
The Homecoming Court is an annual tradition that recognizes exceptional members of the LSU student body from all classifications. The court is chosen in a multi-stage selection process that includes judging panel application review, interviews and a vote of the LSU student body. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at halftime during the LSU vs. Furman University football game on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
Members of the 2013 Homecoming Court include queen candidates Emma Arceneaux, a biological sciences major from St. Joseph; Sarah Beth Theriot, a biological sciences major from White Hall, Ark.; and Carley Wahlborg, a mass communication major concentrating in public relations from Baton Rouge. The king candidates include Alex Cagnola, a biological engineering major from Lafayette; Dylon Hoffpauir, a mass communication major concentrating in public relations from Erath; and Tuan Tran, a biological sciences major from New Iberia.
Other members of the 2013 Homecoming Court include juniors Sara Hazelwood, a mathematics major concentrating in secondary education from Slidell; Matthew Landry, a nutrition and food sciences major from Pierre Part; Arenn Martin, a business management and sports administration major from Fairfax, Va.; and Bradley Williams, a mass communication major concentrating in public relations from Lafayette; sophomores Alli Beth Blanchard, a kinesiology major from Pierre Part; and Jacob Boudreaux, a biochemistry and French double major from Houma; and first-year students Gabriella Darden, a mathematics major from Charenton; and Alex Naquin, a chemical engineering major from Larose.
All LSU students are eligible to vote for the 2013 Homecoming king and queen via the student’s myLSU account. Voting began on Friday, Oct. 11, at noon and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. This year, the Homecoming Committee provided students an extra week to vote for Homecoming king and queen.
In 1933, LSU selected its first Homecoming queen. Marguerite Bass was chosen by the student body president and reigned with a princess and seven maids. The university selected its first African-American Homecoming queen in 1991 with the election of Renee Boutte. The following year, LSU began selecting a Homecoming king to reign with the queen.
LSU Homecoming 2013 is made possible thanks to generous donations to the university by presenting sponsor Campus Federal Credit Union, along with additional funding support from Burbank Commons, The Cottages of Baton Rouge, ExxonMobil, Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, U Club Commons, and University Crescent. In addition to providing funding for Homecoming, a portion of these sponsors’ donations – a total of $5,500 – was contributed to the LSU general scholarship fund. Additionally, in-kind donations were made to LSU Homecoming by the LSU Dining.
LSU Homecoming is coordinated by LSU Campus Life, a unit within the Office of the Dean of Students and the Division of Student Life and Enrollment.
