Success simply does not come without hard work, something Erath High senior Catherine Domingues knows to be true.
Domingues has held a 4.0 GPA for all 12 years of school. She is also a member and leader in several organizations at Erath High. It is all thanks to hard work.
She received some well-deserved recognition for her many successes Wednesday when the Abbeville Kiwanis Club named her its Student of the Month for November. Domingues will be given a sign to display in her front yard. She is also awarded a gift card to Sonic in Abbeville.
“I would like to thank you all for having me today,” Domingues told the Kiwanians Tuesday during their weekly meeting. “I am honored to be recognized by such a well-respected organization.
“I am very proud to be representing Erath High School as the Abbeville Kiwanis Student of the Month.”
Officials at the school are certain to feel the same way about Domingues representing Erath during the last four years. She currently serves as the President of the Student Council. She has helped organize several events, including freshman orientation, homecoming week, football pep rallies and student council week, among several other activities. Domingues is cheerleading captain, and participates in the Beta and Math Clubs, where is the secretary.
“I am also a member or the track team,” Domingues said. “I had the honor of competing at the regional and state meets during the past three years.”
During this past summer, Domingues traveled to Houston to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.
“I gained much insight into the medical field.”
It is in that field to which Domingues said she plans to move after high school
“I plan to attend LSU in Baton Rouge and major in biology,” she said. “Afterwards, I plan to further my education to become physician’s assistant.”
Domingues remains humble in the midst of her accomplishments. She credits her family, including her parents, Jim and Charolette, as well as the school itself for helping create so many positive results.
“At Erath High, students are constantly motivated to reach their potential in and out of the classroom,” Domingues said. “I have been encouraged to set high goals for myself.
“Through hard work and motivation, as well as the support of my family, school and great community organizations, I know that I’ll be able to achieve my goals in the future.”
While keeping an eye on those goals, Domingues said she does take time relax.
“When I find spare time,” she said, “which is not very often, I enjoy spending time with my friends and doing anything in the outdoors. I like hunting, fishing and cutting sugarcane with my dad.”
It is finding a balance between working hard and enjoying being a teenager that is the ultimate key to success.
“The most important thing is time management,” Domingues said. “You have to balance school and fun and friends. You have to balance all of those things.
“You have to have your priorities in place and still find the time to make memories and have fun.”
