Abbeville's Koryn Hawthorne now in Los Angeles to compete in "The Voice"

This week, Koryn Hawthorne is in   Los Angeles, and if she is lucky, she will not be back until after May 16 - the night of the finals.

Hawthorne, her mother Summers Simon and other family members will be  heading to Los Angeles today to spend at least the next nine days there.  

Hawthorne, a 17-year-old from Abbeville, advanced to the “Live” round of “The Voice.”  

Her and 19 other singers will be competing against each other in front of America.  Her fate will now be in the hands of America instead of her coach.

The good news is that she already knows her night to perform will be April 6. She will find out on April 7 if America wants to keep her or send her back home.

Hawthorne said it is going to be harder performing in front of a live audience than it was being taped. 

“It is going to be more strenuous because it is going to be stressful," said Hawthorne.  “If I do continue, it will be an every week thing. I will have to learn new songs. Recording and lots of practice. I will sing like crazy and hopefully America votes me in.” 

The 17-year-old teen, who is a junior at Lighthouse Academy, has been preparing for this moment since she was six years old.  While in Los Angeles,  Hawthorne said it will be nothing but practicing seven hours a day for her live performance.

Hawthorne, who loves inspirational music, said her fame in Los Angeles has not changed her one bit.  She did say it is weird walking into a  grocery store and people recoginizing her and wanting to take photos with her.

On Saturday she was at the Acadiana Mall signing autographs and taking photos with her new fans. 

“I feel like I have changed musically by growing,” she added.  “I know more about the type of artist I want to be now. I am more prepared for the industry.

“Overall it is  a positive change that has come.”
