Abbeville Firemen wearing pink during October

Firefighters are synonymous with the color of their trucks...red.
Members of the Abbeville Fire Department can be recognized at the moment by a different color. Each is wearing a pink T-shirt in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“A lot of departments around the country do it each year,” Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire said. “One of our members, April Bodin, asked if we could do it this year. I asked the rest of the guys and they are all for it.”
Bodin said she is happy to support the cause.
“For a lot of the guys in the department,” Bodin said, “this directly affects some people in their family. This is a really good group of guys who want to show support to the community.”
The community has taken notice.
“We are getting a lot of good feedback,” Mire said. “People are appreciating it.”
Members of the department recently went to eat lunch at RiverFront.
“It was the first day we were wearing the shirts,” Bodin said. “A lady sitting next to us came up and told us she was a breast cancer survivor. She said she really appreciates us showing support for this cause.
“It was nice that she gave us recognition, but she is the one who deserves recognition for having gone through something like that and being a survivor.”
