Abbeville native graduates from Sacred Heart Academy

The Academy of the Sacred Heart at Grand Coteau held its one hundred and ninety-second graduation for the 27 members of the Class of 2014 on May 30. Abbeville resident, Kathleen Edwards was named Valedictorian. Edwards will attend Louisiana State University Honors College this fall where she plans to pursue an engineering degree and hopes to use it in a career that will involve exploration and travel, while making a difference and helping those in need.

Kate received scholarships from Louisiana State University, Baylor University, University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado School of Mines, and University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is also the recipient of the TOPS Honors Award.

This year, Kate has served as a leader of Student Council, Quiz Bowl, and Craft Club. In her time at Sacred Heart, she has also been a member of the varsity basketball team and National Honors Society, as well as manager of the volleyball team. At the district literary rally, she placed first in division in Calculus I and first overall in the art competition. At the state level, she placed second in Calculus I. She was also selected for the Academic All-State Composite basketball team.
