JA hosts “Artfully Yours” program

Junior Auxiliary of Abbeville hosted “Artfully Yours” at the Boys and Girls Club of Abbeville on March 22, 2014. Artfully Yours provided students with an opportunity to express their creativity and imagination. Students participated in a fun-filled morning of creating art and crafts. Workshops offered included the following: fashion design, acrylic painting, mosaics, drawing, decorating flower pots, and crafting a flower pen. After completing the workshops, one student expressed: “I’ve never done this stuff before, and I’m pretty good at it.” Laurie Hulin, chairperson of Artfully Yours expressed, “Seeing these kids discover and use their talent was so encouraging. The morning was a true success as marked by the students’ completed projects and their smiling faces.”

Hulin welcomed the assistance of Nealy Atkins from Vermilion Catholic High School, students from Vermilion Catholic High School, and Katie Landry from Eaton Park Elementary. Members that participated include: Marcy Lege, Aimee Puhekker, Angelle Broussard, Nicole Desormeaux, Jamie Hebert, Liz Perry, Megan Lalonde, Andrea Gary, Nicholyn Stansbury, Tara Duplantis (co-chairperson) and Laurie Hulin (chairperson.)

All of the supplies needed for this event came from the generous donations and support of the community. A special donation was made by LaNell Melancon with Melancon Jewelers. Without the community’s help, Junior Auxiliary of Abbeville would not be able to provide this opportunity.
