Whatever it takes to win

For most football teams the field goal kicker is only remembered if he misses a game-winning field goal.

For Vermilion Catholic, the team’s field goal kicker is not forgotten, but plays an integral part on the offense.

Emile Trahan is the sophomore field goal kicker for VC and, more importantly, he is the number two receiver on the team.

Trahan finished the regular season with 517 receiving yards on only 24 catches.

He also had four receiving touchdowns, both of which were good enough for second place. Along with the touchdowns he also scored 72 total points on the year.

In VC’s first playoff game of the year Trahan had 60 yards receiving on three catches and two touchdowns.

“It was nice to be able to go out there and play well,” Trahan said. “I don’t get to see too many balls come my way because Connor [Menard] on the other side is just so good. So I just have to make the best with every opportunity I get.”

Menard is the number one wide receiver for VC and Trahan is ok learning the ropes behind him.

“Connor is a senior so I just make sure I learn as much as I can from him before he leaves,” Trahan said. “He is the number one receiver this year and next year it will be me, hopefully.”

Trahan only being a sophomore is a good thing for VC.

He received a lot of playing experience this season and has performed in all the roles he has been asked to perform.

Along with being a wide receiver he is sometimes a kick returner and more importantly he is the kicker.

“I always played soccer growing up,” Trahan said. “So, I tried out for kicker and made it. I thought that was going to be the only action I got this year, but now since I’m pulling double duty its nice to be able to help my team win anyway I can.”

Doing whatever he can is the name of the game for Trahan.

“I just want to do whatever I’m asked to do,” Trahan said. “As long as the team wins I don’t care what my role is.”

Since VC went 10-0 in the regular season, and won its first playoff game, Trahan is excited.

“It was awesome to go out there and finish the season undefeated, but we know that we have a lot of work left,” Trahan said. “Our goal is to win state and anything short is considered a bad season.”

Emile Trahan is number six for the Eagles and this Friday maybe you will get to see him do his favorite thing, kick the extra point after he scores a touchdown.
