Third time’s a charm

The old saying is third time's a charm, and that has never held more true than for the Delcambre Panthers.

For the third time in two weeks, the Panthers faced off against the Erath Bobcats, and even though the first two games went the way of the Bobcats; third time’s a charm.

The Panthers defense stepped up and defeated the Bobcats by the final score of 48-24.

“We played one of the best defensive games we have played all season long,” Panthers Head Coach Johnny Trangmar said. “We finally played well as a team, and that was one of the main reasons we were able to get the W.”

The Panthers defense started the game out on the right foot. Delcambre didn’t allow the Bobcats to score until a couple minutes into the second quarter.

The Panthers also held a sizable halftime lead of 24-9.

“We out rebounded them very well,” Trangmar said. “It was the best rebounding performance we have had all season. I am really proud of the way we played, both defensively and in our rebounding game.”

The second was much of the same for the Delcambre defense.

The Erath offense was only able to score 15 points combined in the second half.

The Panthers were able to put up 12 in each quarter to win by the final score of 48-24.

“Again, our defense played the best game it has all season,” Trangmar said. “I don’t want to take anything away from Erath. They are a good team, and they were missing a couple of players, but this is still a great win for our
boys.”

Coach Trangmar went on to say that his offense played well, but not as good as it could have.

“We had a lot of good shots,” Trangmar said. “We just couldn’t seem to make any of them. I’m not sure if it was the nerves of playing at home for the first time or what, but we missed a lot of good open shots.”

As Coach Trangmar mentioned this was the first home game the Panthers have played at the friendly confines of Delcambre.

Coach Trangmar also went on to say that missing open shots is just part of the game.

“It happens from time to time,” Trangmar said. “Now that our defense seems to be coming around, I think our offense will catch up too, and when it does, we are going to have a lot of fun on the basketball court.”

Leading the way for the Panthers was Brayton Trahan who scored a team and game high 11 points.

Chevaun Walters, Tyten DeBlanc and Hunter Delcambre were not far behind, scoring eight, seven and six respectively.

Chris Borel added five, while Reese LeBlanc and Zach Trahan each scored four.

Alec Toups was the leading scorer for the Bobcats, with eight.

Aaron Green and Jalen Sinegal each added five and four respectively.

Justin Music added three of his own, and Ross Bares and Zach Campos rounded out the scoring for Erath with two apiece.

Delcambre’s record now stand at 3-4 on the season.

For the Bobcats, their record falls to 4-7 on the season.
