Patriots play host to Wildcats

The North Vermilion Patriots are hosting the Wildcats in what looks to be the district match-up to see this weekend.

As of the moment, the weather is not going to interfere with the start time of the game.

School officials will make a decision on the game at noon today.

Both the Wildcats and Patriots are coming off of decisive victories in their first district games, this past Tuesday night.

The Patriots defeated the Kaplan Pirates 54-35, and the Wildcats defeated the Erath Bobcats 51-40.

Both teams head into this game with a lot of momentum.

The Patriots have won four of their last six games. Where as the Wildcats have won three straight and four of their last five games.

This game is also important as far as the playoffs are concerned.

If the Wildcats were to win this game it would go a long way in helping them crack the top 32.

Abbeville sits at 40th in the power rankings, and North Vermilion sits at number 10.

If Abbeville is going to win this game they are going to need to see a good game from their starting point guard Desmond Taylor, and big man down low Clements Dorsey.

Along with those two stepping up, they are going to need to play a good solid team basketball game.

The team will need to step up strong because the Patriots are going to rely on last years All-Parish MVP Mike Bessard.

Along with Bessard, the Patriots have Nick Cooper at center and Donald Comeaux on the perimeter.

The girls game that will precede the boys game will also be a game to watch as it features the red hot Lady Wildcats taking on the Lady Patriots.

The Lady Wildcats have won their last three district games, and the Lady Patriots got their first district win on Tuesday night against the Kaplan Lady Pirates.

This game, much like the guys’ game, is crucial for both teams as far as playoffs are concerned.

The Lady Wildcats are ranked 27th in the power rankings and the Lady Patriots are on the bubble as they sit in the 33rd spot.

Every win that each team can get from this point on is critical.

If Abbeville is going to win this game they are going to need a good game from its experienced back court in Christina Hackshaw and Arrayia Starlard.

The Patriots are going to look toward starting guards Simone Pillette and Morgan Harrington, to help lead them to two wins in a row.
