NV rolls over Erath

The North Vermilion Patriots soccer team got its district schedule underway Wednesday night, and it started it off on the right foot.

The Patriots faced off against district rival Erath and won by the final score of 6-2.

“It was a good win for our team,” Patriots Head Coach Mark Patin said. “We possessed the ball for most of the game, which is why we were able to put up six goals.”

The goal scoring got started early for the Patriots.

Seth Patin netted the first goal of the evening only three minutes into the first half.

Less than ten minutes later Taylor Abshire scored the second goal for the Patriots.

It didn’t take Patin long to get back to scoring himself. A mere 1:11 later, Patin scored his second goal of the night, giving the Patriots the early 3-0 lead.

The final goal of the first half was scored by Kalen Hanks, who netted his lone goal of the night with 12:50 remaining in the half.

In the second half, Joise Caravanteis and Brett Saltzan got in on the scoring, to give the Patriots a 6-0 advantage.

The Bobcats would not go down without a fight. With 11 minutes left in the game Rilet Talent-Gary would score his and Erath’s first goal of the game.

Talent-Gary’s second goal would come on a penalty kick in the waning seconds of the game.

“It was a good solid game for our team,” Patin said. “We played well tonight and we played as a team, and that’s the most important thing.”

Coach Patin also went on to say that he is excited about his team and the performace he expects them to have this year.

“I got a great group of kids this year,” Patin said. “Every single one of them, everyone from the JV to the startes, is giving 200 percent, and that’s what we have been coaching since day one. If you can have everyone on your
team playing like that, then it is going to be a fun year.”
