Lady Wildcats win big over West St. Mary

The Abbeville Lady Wildcats entered the game Friday night against district rival West St. Mary, riding the high of winning its first district match-up against Kaplan on Wednesday.

The Lady Wildcats are flying even higher after starting their district schedule 2-0, with a 41-25 victory over West St. Mary.

The first quarter started off a little slow for the Lady Wildcats as the offense was only able to score eight points.

Starting forward Barbara Bryant scored five of the eight first quarter points for the Lady Wildcats.

The Abbeville defense held strong though, and held West St. Mary to only eight points as well.

The second quarter is where the Lady Wildcats took over the game.

The offense came out and put up 13 points.

While the defense for the Lady Wildcats only allowed four points.

Bianca Levy scored four of her seven points in the second quarter.

The Lady Wildcats had a 21-12 advantage at halftime and didn’t look back.

Coming out of the halftime break the Lady Wildcats continued to roll and extend their lead as the offense was able to put up another 10 points.

Jacqueline Braxton and Christina Hackshaw teamed up to score all 10 of the Lady Wildcats points.

The defense played even better coming out of the break as they only allowed West St. Mary to score two points.

By the time the fourth quarter rolled around the Lady Wildcats found themselves up 31-14.

Despite having the big 17 point lead the Lady Wildcats offense still came out and was able to score 10 points.

The defense allowed West St. Mary to score 11 points, making the final score 41-25.

The margin of victory was already 16 points, but it could have been much worse.

The only stain on an otherwise outstanding game for the Lady Wildcats, was their free throw shooting.

The Lady Wildcats were sent to the charity stripe 22 times and were only able to capitalize on 10 of those chances.

Christian Hackshaw came up big for the Lady Wildcats, as she led the team in scoring with eight points.

Bianca Levy and Barbara Bryant were not far behind Hackshaw as they each added seven points to the final tally.

Jacqueline Braxton added six points for the Lady Wildcats. All of her points were scored in the third quarter.

Evelyn Briggs was able to get in on the scoring action for Abbeville with her four points.

Jada Darby, Arrayia Starlar and Raven Boudreaux all made contributions by rounding out the scoring for the Lady Wildcats with three points apiece.

This win puts the Lady Wildcats at .500, with an 11-11 overall record.

Also, with this win they are now sporting a two game winning streak, both of which are district games, giving them a flawless 2-0 record in district.

The Lady Wildcats will be back on the court Tuesday, as they will travel to Erath to take on the Lady Bobcats.
