Gueydan prepares district match-ups

The Gueydan Honey Bears have one of the youngest teams in the parish, and despite their youth are still sporting a 9-6 record.

The Honey Bears will put that 9-6 record to the test as they will play host to Highland Baptist tonight in Gueydan.

“We have a very positive team right now,” Honey Bears Head Coach Randall Bertrand said. “Highland Baptist is a relatively new team and one that we can’t overlook. We are just going to have to play our game. We have to do the things that we know we
can do and we should be alright.”

This weekend is also going to test the Honey Bears endurance and the ability to switch gears rapidly.

Guyedan not only has to worry about Highland Baptist tonight, but they also have to be ready to face off against Lafayette Christian tomorrow night.

“It’s going to be a little tough,” Bertrand said. “I mean two district games are hard to play, period, much less back-to-back, but I think we are well equipped. As long as we stay focused, I think we can handle it.”

This will definitely be a test for the young Honey Bears squad.

The starting line-up will consist of two juniors; Sheridan Guidry and Kylie Crochet, freshmen Kiara Charles and T’nia Leger and eight grader Asharie Terry.

The game will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the Gueydan gym. The Gueydan boys team will play after.
