Kaplan and North Vermilion, rivals in District 6-3A, at the snap.

District standings shift little after Week Seven

A second win by North Vermilion in district play has them still tied with Notre Dame at the top of the district standings, while Vermilion Catholic bumped off their biggest competition in Highland Baptist.

In 3A competition, North Vermilion leads the way locally, tied with Notre Dame of Crowley with a 2-0 record in district. The Patriots began district play with a narrow win over Kaplan, following it up with a game against Abbeville. Erath and Kaplan each have one district win, tying for second place, and Abbeville is tied with West St. Mary for last, both with an 0-2 district record.

The district covering Vermilion Catholic and Gueydan has been underway for a longer time, with seven teams making it a big district to compete in.

Vermilion Catholic’s win over Highland Baptist last week put them at the top of their district as the only team with no losses in district play. However, they do have two challenges left in Ascension Episcopal and Hanson Memorial. Those games come after this week’s non-district game against a very tough Eunice team. Gueydan, meanwhile, is winless in district.

In the 2A district covering Delcambre, the Panthers are tied with Jeanerette at the tail end of the district list, behind Westminster, Catholic High, Loreauville and Opelousas Catholic.

There are three games left in the season, and the district rankings could change dramatically. The local teams still have a chance to make their way to the top of the pile by the end of the regular season.
