Decuir sentenced to 35 years for shooting her husband

The Vermilion Parish woman convicted of shooting her husband in the back of the head while he slept was sentenced Friday.

Denna Decuir will spend the next 35 years of her life at hard labor.

Decuir was charged with second degree murder in the cold blooded slaying of her husband, Milton, who was found shot to death last year inside the family home south of Abbeville in Big Woods.

The prosecution agreed to reduce the murder charges against Denna to manslaughter and in return she admitted to shooting her husband of 25 years while he slept.
