67-year-old Vermilion Parish father now charged with second degree murder for allegedly killing his 40-year-old son

Charges against Larry Harrington have been upgraded from manslaughter to second degree murder for allegedly killing his son MaCade Harrington on Wednesday.

According to assistant district attorney Laurie Hulin, the charges were upgraded because new evidence supports the new charge.

MaCade, 40, was allegedly shot multiple times by his 67-year-old father, Larry, during a family argument. The shooting occurred outside in the yard of Larry Harrington.

His bond was set at $250,000 and he was booked into the Vermilion Parish jail.

Larry was first charged with manslaughter and was facing no more than 40 years in prison if found guilty. But with second degree murder charges, if found guilty, he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation and did not release any information on why the shooting took place or what type of gun MaCade was shot with.

Funeral arrangements have been made for MaCade for Monday. Services will be at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest in Kaplan.

He leaves behind two children, Lainie M. Harrington and son, Hunter M. Harrington and McCade’s mother, Flodry Breaux of Kaplan. MaCade also leaves behind six brothers and two sisters.

Vincent Funeral Home in Kaplan is handling the funeral arrangements.
